This website is for me to share what I have spent the last 8 years doing…feeding everyone I know! I update this site daily, mostly because I have developed lots of my own recipes and they are written on raggedy old napkins or note cards. I should type them out…don’t you think? I also, openly, steal recipes from family and friends to post on here because the world would not be the same without them!
I have included, before each recipe, a little about the context of the recipes creation. I think this information is relevant because I have made each thing I post many times and have spent many hours of trial and error trying to perfect the techniques, proportions, and cook times.
I use mostly in-season ingredients, and ingredients found at ethnic grocery stores (namely Arabic, Vietnamese and Mexican). You would be surprised at what you can find at these places! The Vietnamese store is the only place I can find fresh dill and mint in Oklahoma City! The Mexican grocery stores have copious limes, avocados, tomatoes, and other seasonal products available year-round for half the price of Wal-Mart. The cheaper the produce, the better the chances are that you will cook. The produce at ethnic stores is sold at very reasonable prices, and this is not different from my experiences in the other places I have lived.
In Dearborn, Michigan the Arabic grocery stores provide year-round reasonably priced produce because Arabic foods require lots of vegetables and fruit, and the demand for fresh ingredients is high. The predominantly American community has taken a liking to paying less for produce and has become privy to these places as well. I have introduced many of my friends to ethnic grocery stores, and they all are hooked.
I want to know if you use my recipes, or if you would if they were different. Do you enjoy reading? Buy books? Buy cookbooks? Like entertaining? Need ideas for holidays? Bored of eating and drinking the same old stuff? Let me know either way!
